Oxford Dress Shoe | May 2019
May 15 @ 9:00 am - May 19 @ 5:00 pm$325 – $650
This is a 5-day shoe making class, in which we will each build a custom pair of comfortable “non-lasted” oxford dress shoes based on this classic design, but more flexible than the typical hard soled men’s dress shoe.
in this class we begin by making a casting of your foot (they will truly be custom built), then move on to patterning and leather selection, cutting and skiving, stitching, lining and assembly. We will be using walking foot and industrial post sewing machines in this class to assemble the uppers. Some sewing machine experience is helpful, but not required. Once the upper and sole are attached by hand stitching, we move on to closure, finishing, and finally attaching and trimming the soles.
We cover a wide assortment of leather working techniques and tools in these classes, and in this class we will go even more in-depth, spending at least a full day skiving with various blades (some well over 100 years old!).
These are my out-on-the-town shoes when I wanna dress up a bit! I’ve always loved the look of dress shoes, but never liked how stiff and confining the typical pointy-toed, conventional men’s shoe fits. Utilizing my “internal stitchdown” construction technique, I set out to make a more refined shoe that actually fits and is comfortable to wear and walk in all day.
This pair of shoes could easily last you for the rest of your life if well taken care of!
Space is limited to 5 students per class and they fill quickly.
